Why I Choose Natural-Fibered Clothing

OOTD: Black and Camel Luxe

When looking at clothing and deciding on making on purchase, the material and texture of the clothing items play a huge factor in my decision making process. I always try to opt for high-quality, natural-fibered clothing that will look and feel good on my body and that will last a long time. There are numerous types of natural fibres used in the fashion industry, the most common being cotton, wool, cashmere, linen, and silk. There are many advantages to choosing them over synthetic materials.

Sustainability & decomposition. Since natural fibres come from nature, they are a much more environmentally-friendly alternative. They help maintain a sustainable environment since they can decompose easily. Conversely, synthetic fibres take much longer and much more effort to fully decompose. They are man-made plastics that do not break down easily.

High-quality. Natural fibres are of better quality than synthetic fibres. They last longer since the fibre is stronger. Moreover, they are more breathable and are softer. The clothing item is thus more durable and retains its shape, structure, and colour. Synthetic-fibered items tend to deform after a couple of washes and significantly fade with time, making them look cheaper. Synthetic fibres are also more likely to pill, which is when fabric forms small balls of fluff on its surface. The longer the fibres, such as in silk and linen, the less likely a fabric will pill.

Creates a luxurious and elegant style. Instead of feeling sticky and constricting, natural fibres are softer and breathable. They can better absorb moisture, which draws it away from your body, leaving you feeling fresh instead of sweaty.  Furthermore, natural-fibered clothing hold their shape for a very long time, hence stay beautiful for a very long time. They do not wear down easily, even with frequent washes. Moreover, most luxurious outfits and wardrobes are mainly comprised of neutral colours. Since they come from plants and animals, natural-fibered clothing are usually found in neutral tones. Cotton is naturally off-white, linen is naturally cream/beige, wool is naturally white/grey/cream/brown/black, etc. The less natural-looking the colour, the more it looks man-made and “fake”. Not that bold colours are unfashionable, in fact numerous natural fibres are dyed. However neutrals are generally more luxurious.

Less toxic. Natural fibres are a healthier alternative for your body and skin. Since they come from nature, your body is naturally inclined to be more accepting of those materials, and less likely to have an allergic reaction or a rash. In addition, they are not made up with any chemicals, unlike synthetic fibres, which are predominately produced with plastics. Dyes are also not very healthy, as they can further irritate your skin and cause allergic reactions. As in the previous point, natural-fibered clothing are naturally neutral in colour, and do not require as much dye work as synthetic fibres.

For future shopping endeavours, take a look at the materials and see how the fabric feels in your hands. Realistically, natural-fibered clothing are more expensive, but they last so much longer and the pay-off is so worth it!

Shop this look: H&M sweater (out of season; similar here) | Parasuco moto leggings (oos; similar here) | Kirkland Signature boots (total Ugg dupe!) | Danier bag (oos; similar here) | Guess crystal hinged rhinestone bracelet | Guess twisted metal bracelet (total David Yurman dupe!) | Aldo medallion (on sale!)

A sweet look to warm up your winter days. It has been cold lately, and I cannot wait for Spring and the warmer weather it brings. This look is really easy to recreate and can be worn with any style and colour of knit sweater combined with black leggings. It is hard to see in the pictures, however these leggings actually have diagonal seams running along the legs. It gives it a moto style, making the outfit edgier and balances out the sweetness of all the pink tones.

Also, I just want to apologize for my lack of content last week. It was my school reading week (basically my spring break) and decided to take time off of blogging to focus on work.

My Favourite Shopping App!

Hello dears! Before we get started with today’s post, I just wanted to apologize for the lack of content recently. I have been SUPER busy with midterms, work, and just life in general. More to come about that later.

For the past couple of months, I have been using the Shoptagr program on my browser. It is a browser application with which you save items (basically a massive wishlist!). It organizes your products, and notifies you when they goes on sale, are about to sell out, or are back in stock. Moreover, they provide you with coupon codes that are not widely known to the public! I used to bookmark items in a wishlist folder, and would have to manually check every couple of days for sales. Using Shoptagr saves me so much time in my busy life, and is so much more convenient and efficient.

Here’s a sneak peak to a few of my wishlist items.

Basic Cotton Tee

Having black and white cotton tees are some of the most basic wardrobe staples. They can be paired with almost anything, and are great for layering under sweaters, jackets, and blazers. These are very commonly sold and you do not need to spend a fortune to get a good quality tee. Moreover, buying from the men’s section can usually lead to better quality tees with thicker cotton, and they are usually a lot cheaper! Definitely worth checking out! Blouse

Blouses are so versatile; they come in all cuts, styles, colours, and prints. When building your wardrobe, try to find classic styles that look and feel good. It can simply be a white blouse, but ornamented with a bow or gold buttons. Furthermore, I recommend silk, since it is not static and does not cling to your body. It falls nicely and does not wrinkle. Here are some links to shop: Valentino | Gucci | Akris Punto

OOTD: Black & White Business

White Button Down Shirt

Along with a black blazer, a white button down shirt is a very important wardrobe essential. Especially useful in a business environment, they can also be worn countless of ways; paired with jeans, tied at the waist, or tucked into a skirt. Button down shirts can be found in various colours and cuts, and so find that fits your character! Here are some links to shop: Victoria Beckham | Lily Silk | Michael Kors

Breton Shirt

A breton shirt is characteristically known for its horizontal navy blue and white stripes. Originally worn by the French navy, it is now part of typical French style, brought to surface by Gabrielle Chanel in 1920s women’s fashion. Since both navy and white are neutral colours, this item may be paired with a diversity of jackets, blazers, vests, and so on. Here are some links to shop: French Connection | Saint James | Gap
