Welcome back! I have decided to introduce a new mini-series to my blog: the Timeless Capsule Wardrobe. It has been a long-time coming, so I am excited to finally be sharing it with you all.
As you know, I am currently in university and am living the life of a broke student 😦 My reality involves working 30+ hour weeks to be able to pay for school out-of-pocket as I go. My goal is to avoid student loans in order to graduate debt-free. It is doable, however it is challenging and takes great discipline in order to maintain a tight budget.
Unfortunately, as much as I love fashion and beauty, I do not have the funds to afford all the luxuries that I desire. Therefore, when shopping, my philosophy is putting more money towards one item with high quality that I know will last me a long time. I am not a fan of fast-fashion; buying multiple cheap clothing items of low quality that do not last long. You might get a couple of wears out of them before having to purchase a whole new item once again. This shopping mentality not only exhausts your money, but also your time. Time that could be spent at your job working and making more money (increasing your cash inflow), instead of spending more money (increasing your cash outflow).
With that in mind, I have chosen a few items that I find every wardrobe needs, but that create a variety of timeless outfits. The whole point of a capsule wardrobe is to exploit as many different outfit combinations with a select number of clothing items. The trick is to buy neutral pieces that can alternate well with each other.
Every week, I will be posting a continuation of this series, focusing on a certain type of clothing item. First one to come will be about coats, jackets, and blazers. Stay tuned!

Basic Cotton Tee
Having black and white cotton tees are some of the most basic wardrobe staples. They can be paired with almost anything, and are great for layering under sweaters, jackets, and blazers. These are very commonly sold and you do not need to spend a fortune to get a good quality tee. Moreover, buying from the men’s section can usually lead to better quality tees with thicker cotton, and they are usually a lot cheaper! Definitely worth checking out! Blouses are so versatile; they come in all cuts, styles, colours, and prints. When building your wardrobe, try to find classic styles that look and feel good. It can simply be a white blouse, but ornamented with a bow or gold buttons. Furthermore, I recommend silk, since it is not static and does not cling to your body. It falls nicely and does not wrinkle. Here are some links to shop: Valentino | Gucci | Akris Punto
OOTD: Black & White Business
White Button Down Shirt
Along with a black blazer, a white button down shirt is a very important wardrobe essential. Especially useful in a business environment, they can also be worn countless of ways; paired with jeans, tied at the waist, or tucked into a skirt. Button down shirts can be found in various colours and cuts, and so find that fits your character! Here are some links to shop: Victoria Beckham | Lily Silk | Michael Kors
A breton shirt is characteristically known for its horizontal navy blue and white stripes. Originally worn by the French navy, it is now part of typical French style, brought to surface by Gabrielle Chanel in 1920s women’s fashion. Since both navy and white are neutral colours, this item may be paired with a diversity of jackets, blazers, vests, and so on. Here are some links to shop: French Connection | Saint James | Gap
