Shop this look: RW&Co paperboy pants (out of season; similar here) | Dynamite lace bodysuit (oos; similar here) | Nine West heels (on sale!) | Ava & Aiden rings (similar here) | Aldo bag (oos; similar here)

A dressy yet casual way of styling a neutral-coloured pair of paperboy pants. I think this outfit is perfect during Summer for a dinner or a night out with friends. Alternatively, these pants can be styled with more conservative clothing for a business casual office look. I decided to keep the outfit relatively simple with not much accessorizing or variation in colours and to put the emphasis and focus on the shiny and jewelled snake bracelet. I like how it serves the same purpose as a typical gold bracelet, yet is so much more bold and definitely adds personality to the overall look.

Life update: I am keeping busy at work teaching leadership courses and guarding full-time down at the beach. I am very happy to be spending most of my time outdoors and to be getting lots of sun! If you have seen my IG stories lately, you know that the tan line game is real haha. #lifeguardproblems

Other than that, I am looking forward to my last year of my undergraduate degree. As much as I believe that school is important, I cannot wait to graduate this coming Spring! I am also looking at purchasing a new phone and my first car within the year, so be prepared for even more budgeting tips as my budget just got tighter….In all honesty, it is difficult being on a tight budget and paying for school out of pocket as I go through it. It may not seem like it right now, but the benefits for sure outweigh the cons. I will be graduating debt-free, which is such a big accomplishment in itself, but I have also learned so much about  managing my money appropriately and I have gained a new found appreciation for the value of money.

Have a lovely weekend, xox

4 Ways To Wear Leopard Print

Leopard print goes back as far as Ancient Egypt and today is now a prominent pattern in the world of fashion. Representative of boldness, confidence, and glamour. I believe this trend will never truly go out of style. I have always loved this particular print as far as my memory goes. Even as a toddler, I wanted to wear my spots!

A bright and colourful look to take on the Summer heat! Spice up your wardrobe with a hot pink blouse, or any colour of your choice, and be up to date with 2019’s neon fashion trend. Instead of purchasing something that will be out of style later and that you will not be able to reuse, try finding something that suits your body type, personal style and personality and that you will be able to mix with many items in your current wardrobe.

As much as I like more of a classic wardrobe with neutral tones, I find myself drawn to very saturated colours for the Summer. It makes me think of the Amalfi coast, with its vivid azure ocean and magenta-coloured flowers found throughout the towns.

I just wanted to say a few words in the memory of Karl Lagerfeld. He has been one of my favourite designers and I have always loved his pieces. He was such a fabulous source of inspiration and has brought so much to the world of fashion. May he rest in peace.

A very casual and comfortable athleisure look. Perfect for running errands, going to the gym, or just wanting to have a relaxed day at home. I like taking these active-looking outfits and sprucing them up with jewelry and a nice bag to make them a bit more glamorous and feminine.

The day I shot this outfit, I also talked about men’s tees on my IG stories. Just to recap that conversation, men’s shirts are a lot better quality, with a thicker material that is not see-through and does not stretch, for a way better price! The one I am wearing comes in a pack of four for $20 at Costco! That comes to $5 a piece, which is an AMAZING deal!

Quick life update: I apologize for not being so active on my blog or IG lately; I have been SUPER busy!!! I have officially left the nest and spread my wings. After a lot of back and forth and after finding time between shifts, I have FINALLY moved into my very first apartment! There is still much to do, boxes to unpack, and things to buy however it is progressing bit by bit. It is a pretty big adjustment, however I am excited to be completely settled in!

I have basically been living in white and pink combinations recently! Loving this palette for Spring though. I find the easiest way to make a large number of different outfits with a small selection of clothing is building the core of your outfit in neutral colours and adding one item of colour/print to make it unique from all the other outfit combinations. You have probably noticed a lot of white-based outfits recently, yet all the outfits differ from each other and have their own twist. I only have one pair of white denim and only one white camisole, which is more than enough to build that basic outfit from which you can then add something special.

A light and airy look perfect for the brighter and warmer days of Spring! By using neutral-coloured basics as the core of the look, it is easy to vary the outfit by using different jackets/blazers and accessories. This season, I am totally loving wearing my white lace bodysuit paired with my white denim jeans; they are definitely on repeat and will be seen quite often. All I have to do is interchange certain pieces, my shoes, and my handbag to get a whole new outfit.

Being a university student with a VERY limited budget, I cannot afford to continually buy new things or to make a new purchase when something else is on trend. By purchasing neutral and basic pieces, I can make many more different outfits with a smaller amount of clothes. Definitely looking at quality and structure of the garment helps to keep clothing longer and helps to elevate your personal style and elegance. As much as fast fashion is very tempting, it ends up costing you more long-term.

This outfit focuses on the play of cream and black, with white as a neutral base. These colours are of such French influence, as seen with Chanel. By using mainly neutral colours, so many different outfits can be made and each garment can be styled in various manners. As much as I love my pops of colour, I for sure appreciate a more classic and neutral-toned wardrobe. I feel like during the Summer I bring out very bright and saturated colours, which all remind me of the Amalfi coast and of numerous Italian designers (ex: Dolce & Gabbana). However, during the rest of the year, my main colours are neutral, such as black and white, which is more of the French style.

Such a stylish and comfortable Spring outfit! I have mentioned this before, but an easy way to transition from Winter to Spring is to reuse your knitwear and to pair it with white denim. This helps to freshen, brighten and lighten your look for the warm-weather days. This outfit is comprised of basic and, individually, plain pieces. Playing around with them and styling them in alternate ways aids to bring your outfit to life, bringing it from drab to fab. Since this sweater is oversized, I like to do a front tuck and roll the sleeves; just by doing that it balances out the loose fit and adds character to the look. By wearing it off one shoulder, I can show off the lace detail of my bodysuit underneath, which adds a sexy and feminine tone to a rather boxy-looking ensemble. I finished the look with some dainty jewelry; these rings are a recent purchase and I am SO HAPPY to have bought them! I have always had very short and fat fingers, and so rings were always too tight. I found these in my size (ring size 9, eek) and I find they just tie my outfits together and really bring that element that was previously missing.

Its rather cold this Spring and so I am back to wearing knitwear. This sweater was actually borrowed from my grandmother; she is very fashionable and is always looking at the latest trends. I guess I can say that fashionistas run in the family haha. I also just bought these white heels on major sale at Saks Fifth Avenue! I have always wanted white pointed-toe heels and have had my eyes on THESE for some time now. When I saw these equally good ones on sale, I could not resist.

In terms of the outfit itself, I wanted to combine feminine aspects with an edgier vibe. The soft lilac colour and dainty jewelry add a very delicate and pretty ambiance to the outfit. However, the boxy cut of the sweater gives it a looser fit and does not define the waist and curves as much. The skinny leather pants help to balance out the looseness by hugging the legs and adding a moto or rocker look.

Since my booties are brown leather, I paired them with my brown leather tote and brown leather belt. All the metallics are gold-toned, as seen by my bag, belt buckle, sunglasses, and by the buttons on my blouse. Speaking of which, I have been wearing this blouse for over seven years now, and it is still going strong! It is a classic piece and with how frequently I wear it, has definitely paid off.

Why I Choose Natural-Fibered Clothing

facetune_05-01-2019-16-23-44

OOTD: Black and Camel Luxe

When looking at clothing and deciding on making on purchase, the material and texture of the clothing items play a huge factor in my decision making process. I always try to opt for high-quality, natural-fibered clothing that will look and feel good on my body and that will last a long time. There are numerous types of natural fibres used in the fashion industry, the most common being cotton, wool, cashmere, linen, and silk. There are many advantages to choosing them over synthetic materials.

facetune_14-11-2018-21-13-11

OOTD: Luxurious Black

Sustainability & decomposition. Since natural fibres come from nature, they are a much more environmentally-friendly alternative. They help maintain a sustainable environment since they can decompose easily. Conversely, synthetic fibres take much longer and much more effort to fully decompose. They are man-made plastics that do not break down easily.

facetune_22-10-2018-01-42-51-1

OOTD: Neutral Knit

High-quality. Natural fibres are of better quality than synthetic fibres. They last longer since the fibre is stronger. Moreover, they are more breathable and are softer. The clothing item is thus more durable and retains its shape, structure, and colour. Synthetic-fibered items tend to deform after a couple of washes and significantly fade with time, making them look cheaper. Synthetic fibres are also more likely to pill, which is when fabric forms small balls of fluff on its surface. The longer the fibres, such as in silk and linen, the less likely a fabric will pill.

Creates a luxurious and elegant style. Instead of feeling sticky and constricting, natural fibres are softer and breathable. They can better absorb moisture, which draws it away from your body, leaving you feeling fresh instead of sweaty.  Furthermore, natural-fibered clothing hold their shape for a very long time, hence stay beautiful for a very long time. They do not wear down easily, even with frequent washes. Moreover, most luxurious outfits and wardrobes are mainly comprised of neutral colours. Since they come from plants and animals, natural-fibered clothing are usually found in neutral tones. Cotton is naturally off-white, linen is naturally cream/beige, wool is naturally white/grey/cream/brown/black, etc. The less natural-looking the colour, the more it looks man-made and “fake”. Not that bold colours are unfashionable, in fact numerous natural fibres are dyed. However neutrals are generally more luxurious.

OOTD: Pinky

Less toxic. Natural fibres are a healthier alternative for your body and skin. Since they come from nature, your body is naturally inclined to be more accepting of those materials, and less likely to have an allergic reaction or a rash. In addition, they are not made up with any chemicals, unlike synthetic fibres, which are predominately produced with plastics. Dyes are also not very healthy, as they can further irritate your skin and cause allergic reactions. As in the previous point, natural-fibered clothing are naturally neutral in colour, and do not require as much dye work as synthetic fibres.

For future shopping endeavours, take a look at the materials and see how the fabric feels in your hands. Realistically, natural-fibered clothing are more expensive, but they last so much longer and the pay-off is so worth it!

OOTD: Pink

Shop this look: Le Château sweater (on sale!) | Dynamite leather pants (out of season; similar here + on sale!) | Lady Hathaway coat (oos; similar here) | Danier bag (oos; similar here) | H&M booties (oos; similar here) | Guess bracelet

Loving this all pink & black look! It is feminine, edgy, and perfect for cold weather, all at once! This sweater is actually retailed as an over-the-shoulder sweater (as seen HERE), however I like to also wear it as a cowl-neck sweater. It is a great money-saving trick I use; I basically get two sweaters for the cost of one. Alternatively, this outfit can be recreated in a similar way with other colour combinations, once again using black as a neutral backdrop with coordinated accents of colour in the top and accessories.

OOTD: Edgy Blazer

Shop this look: Keneth Cole NY blazer (out of season; similar here) | Halifornia shirt (use code LILYBELF20 for 20% off!) | Chanel Fall 2017 limited edition bag | Dynamite leather pants (oos; similar here + on sale!) | Melanie Lyne screw and crystal bracelet (oos; similar here) | Guess crystal hinged rhinestone bracelet | Guess twisted magnetic bracelet | Converse sneakers (oos; similar here)

This outfit is really easy to style, using basic pieces found in most wardrobes: white sneakers, black skinny pants, white graphic tee, neutral blazer, and a black leather shoulder bag. Even though each item has its own individual style, putting them together creates a unique and fashionable look. The leather pants give off an edgy rocker character, the white sneakers are more hipster, the blazer creates a business look, and the black leather Chanel shoulder bag gives it classiness and elegance.

This is the type of outfit I wear to school most often; it is neither too fancy nor too basic. It is the perfect balance for that stylishly easy look. Moreover, it is the kind of outfit that can be worn almost year-round! As I am writing this post, it is currently -22 degrees Celsius, so I am gearing more towards a winter jacket, boots, a hat, and mittens.  Brrr! It is so cold, but at least we got some great snowfall! Ideal weather for hitting the slopes! That aside, it is the perfect outfit for Fall, during those cold-morning, hot afternoon days, and is great for transitioning from Winter to Spring.

Happy Monday loves ❤

OOTD: Black and Camel Luxe

Shop this look: Danier coat (oos; similar here + on sale!) | Chanel Fall 2017 limited edition bag | Karl Lagerfeld Paris silk scarf (oos; similar here + on sale!) | Chanel brooch | Zara cap | Sam Edelman leopard heels

This outfit is definitely a classic when it comes to Fall and Winter fashion! I received this coat as an early Christmas present, and love it! I have been looking for the perfect one for years, and am so happy I finally have a camel-coloured wool coat! I had a few questions about why I would spend (in this case why Santa 😉 would spend) so much money one a single coat, when I could just get a one for less. Here is the answer: I believe in buying higher quality clothing items for more, that I can wear for 10+ years. As much as I appreciate budget-friendly stores, like Zara for example, continuously buying clothes that are of lower quality and are less expensive ends up costing you more in the long run. Not only is this a huge waste of money, but it is a waste of time (going out shopping and looking for replacement clothes) and it is not ecologically friendly. Clothing that you buy for a reduced priced that are cheap can only be worn a limited number of time before they stretch, fade, and unstitch, and end up in the garbage.

Obviously, being a university student is expensive, and I do not have that much money that I can spend for shopping and fashion. The way I approach shopping is by buying very infrequently and purchasing higher quality items that will last longer. I think I go shopping maybe three times a year, excluding when I find something at Costco. With Costco, they can have some pretty good items, even low-end designer items such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, for AMAZING prices! When I see something, I cannot wait and come back later, as it usually sells out within a few days. When I do go shopping, I do a lot of window shopping and do not usually end up buying anything in stores. I try on pieces that I like, and those that are a success, I add them as a bookmark or add them to my Shoptagr app. When I see that item go on sale, and if I still want it, only then will I make a purchase. As for sales, if it is only 15% off, I do not purchase it. 15% covers the taxes you would be paying for the item, hence does not actually get you a discount on the item price. Therefore, I only take advantage of a sale when it is 20% off or more. I also have a great strategy for online shopping to avoid shipping fees and how to get really good discounts, as seen HERE.

Going back to the coat, it cost Santa* approximately $300, including tax, on sale. I intend on keeping my coat for at least 10 years, so the item cost per year is $30. A similar style coat at Zara goes for $150, and would probably only last me at most 4 years, so the item cost per year is $37.5. It may not look like a huge monetary difference, but it adds up. Moreover, after 4 years, I would have to go look for another coat, wasting time, energy, and more money. Not necessarily money on the coat itself, but gas money or shipping fees, and salary money you would be making if you were at work instead of being busy shopping.

Hope this gives you an insight as to how I shop and proves to be useful for you as well. Enjoy you weekend ❤

Inspiration Tuesday: Blue Christmas

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

This look is perfect for a Christmas celebration with friends and family! It is really festive, with a touch of blue velvet and diamonds that sparkle like winter frosting. “Ladies of New York, frost yourselves!” – who knows where this line comes from? (It is a really funny movie. If you know it, let me know in the comments section below). If you live somewhere with a bit of a chill, throw a black fur coat over your shoulders for added warmth and style.

OOTD: Edgy Red

Shop this look: Hilary Radley blouse (oos; similar here + 50% off!) | Dynamite pants (oos; similar here) | H&M booties (oos; similar here) | Danier bag (oos; similar here) | Melanie Lyne bracelet (oos; similar here)

I am loving the combination of red and leather details in this outfit! Since we are nearing Christmas, it gives off a festive vibe, and can be worn for the office with black dress pants or tucked into a pencil skirt. Alternatively, it can be paired with a black party skirt for other holiday occasions. An easy trick for making your style more festive is to wear a bold coloured blouse (such as royal blue or red) combined with dressy pants or a dressy skirt, black heels, and some bling (ex: on a clutch or jewelry).

Instead of wearing traditional black pants, I opted for a pair with gold zippers and a leather waistband. This really makes them stand out from your typical black dress pants, and adds a moto-chic, edgy vibe to your overall outfit. These could also be worn with other colour blouses or knitwear during the Fall, or a plain white tee tucked in for the Spring.

This outfit is very luxurious, using brands like Max Mara and Dior. It is elegant in the way that quality items are being used, and that it is uniform, mainly using black. The sweater, mini skirt, and over the knee boots combination is very on trend this fall and is perfect for the chillier Autumn days!

I am obsessed with this look! If I had an unlimited budget, I would be dressed in this manner EVERY DAY! Using neutral colours really creates an elegant and sleek outfit, and the high quality accessories make it look polished. Although this outfit is very expensive, investing in high quality items, fabrics, and brands ends up costing less in the long run. You will never have to repurchase the item, as they will last you a life time.

OOTD: Burgundy Knitwear

imageimageimageimageimageimage

Shop this look: Hilary Radley sweater (oos; very similar here) | Calvin Klein Jeans jeggings (oos; similar here) | Michael Kors bag (“luggage” colour is oos) | Aldo booties (oos; different colour here)

I have owned this sweater for approximately four years, and to this day, it is still my all-time favourite knit sweater! It is super soft and is very durable, based on the number of times I have worn it. I basically live in it during the Fall. Funny enough, I purchased this sweater at Costco, for I think $25?!? I love going to Costco and finding really cute and fashionable clothes, and they are SUPER affordable! I have never seen such good prices. You can even find some designer clothing, such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger for a fraction of their retail price. Of course, if you are looking for the latest trends or clothes that are in for that season, you might have more luck at an actual retail location. Costco however has more classic and basic pieces that can be styled anytime.

I completed this look with brown leather tones. I find that browns paired with burgundies look AMAZING for Fall! Paired with black pants, in this case I wore black jeggings, really makes those tonalities pop!

I am loving these colour tonalities for Fall! The burgundy poncho is the focal point of the outfit, keeping the other items in neutral shades of black and brown. Also, Fall is the time to bring out your leather riding boots! They are comfortable, warm, durable, and super fashionable! Especially this pair with both brown and black leather, they are very versatile and can be styled endlessly.

This look is perfect for Fall, with the double-breasted blazer and over-the-knee suede boots! It is a good mix of classy and edgy, especially with the moto-style leather leggings. The blush accents adds a hint of femininity to soften the overall look. Of course it can be interchanged with another colour, but as we all know, I am a pink kinda gal!

Inspiration Tuesday: Plaid Mini

Plaid mini skirts are one of the most prominent fashion trends for Fall 2018! Paired with a beautiful oversized knit sweater that is super cozy for fall weather and brings out the camel undertones found in the skirt. Finishing the outfit with high-end designer items, such as the Gucci belt or the Chanel boy bag, really completes the look.

This is the perfect outfit to transition from summer to fall! The cami and cardigan layers are the perfect combination to overcome the warm September weather and the cool, air conditioned classrooms. The mom jeans and high end accessories help create a casual look that is still stylish and put together.

Inspiration Tuesday: Blush Duster

I love combining bodycon dresses with matching duster jackets. This is the perfect end-of-Summer outfit, great for transitioning into the cooler temperatures of Fall. Moreover, this light pink tone is one of the main colours in the Fall 2018 colour palette! To complete the look, I paired it with nude accessories to keep the focal point on the dress and duster combination. Wearing nude sandals helps to elongate the leg, since it gives the illusion that the shoes are just a continuation of the body. I finished the outfit with a delicate necklace to create a romantic and feminine vibe.

I love wearing athletic clothes to run errands and for those lazy days around the house. Of course being a pink kind of girl, I added those colourful accents to personalize this outfit.  I actually wear a similar outfit very frequently, as seen below. I did use the same hat for both pictures today. Be sure to use my promo code, LILYBELF20 for 20% off your next Halifornia purchase!

Inspiration Tuesday: Summer Nights in Blush

inspiration tuesday: summer nights in blush

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

I have recently found this bag in another blogger’s outfit posts and absolutely LOVE IT! I was really inspired to incorporate it into an outfit. Also, I have been wearing a lot of sweaters recently due to lots of freezing AC and cooler summer nights. Thus, I combined my ideas and generated the above outfit! I love v-neck sweaters as they can be alternatively worn over one shoulder just to give a little something extra to the outfit. I would style this one tucked into the front of the jeans with the messenger bag worn across the body.

This outfit is great for the office; it is conservative yet still has a flare for fashion! Alternatively, this can worn more casually if you switch out the skirt for jeans. This outfit features three common neutral colours: navy blue, white, and nude. Even though this combination may seem simple, this look has a certain flare and embellishment, due to the pleated ruffles and bows found on the blouse. The waistband tie detailing also adds to the romantic tone of this ensemble.

Inspiration Tuesday- Rose

This look is all about playing up wardrobe basics. We are using a basic white t-shirt, black skinny jeans, nude patent pumps, and a black structured bag, all of which are found in almost all closets. For this particular look, I would wear the t-shirt in a half-tuck. The focal item of this outfit is the blazer; giving a twist to an ordinary workwear item with a pop of colour and an amusing cut.
